Dominica has developed a new HIV/Aids policy to guide workplace activities and relationships within the education sector. Stakeholders met last week at a four-day workshop on the development of an HIV/AIDS/STI’s and other Life Threatening Illnesses Policy. The Policy is expected to be presented to government soon for approval. “This has been planned for a while and we are pleased with it. It is important to have policies to guide HIV issues. Without policies in place, you do not have a leg to stand on in terms of providing prevention education. While we have the HIV issues being taught at some schools i9n Family Life Education however we have some set back’s because we need dedicated teachers for the subject and we are just not getting that,” she said.Frampton said she hopes government implements the policy with haste.According to nurse Frampton there is a record of fourteen new reported cases of HIV in Dominica for this year. “That is not good. In the past we have seen 10 and 12. We want to encourage people to continue to practice safe sex and be mindful. Your ultimate responsibility is to protect yourself,” she said.Dominica Vibes News 33 Views   no discussionslast_img
