Photo credit: uwpdm.dmThe Opposition United Workers Party has written a letter to Prime Minister Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit, asking that $2.5 million dollars be made available to the Electoral Commission to introduce Voter ID Cards in Dominica. The UWP has been advocating for the introduction of the cards following the 2009 general elections-a process that they deemed was plagued with bribery and fraudulent activities.Opposition leader Honourable Hector John told a UWP press conference yesterday that the matter must be dealt with urgently. He says the UWP will continue to push for voter ID cards for Dominica until its successful implementation.“The UWP stand in solidarity with the electoral commission, the OAS election observer mission which have been consistent with the message of the UWP, calling for ID Cards for voting. We will keep this mater in the public domain until we have successful implementation,” he said.John said the UWP have also met with the Electoral Commission in that regard.“We have met with the Electoral Commission and we have raised our concern with them. Concerns that have been advocating in the public domain. We called on them to inform the public on some of the matters,” he said.Meantime, the Prime Minister indicated earlier this year that a National ID Card would be the preferred option for Dominica and money has been allocated for the implementation of National ID Cards.Dominica Vibes Newslast_img
