Ministry of Agriculture Cautions the Public on Black Sigatoka Disease

Photo credit: aspsnet.orgThe Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with National Fair Trade Organization and Dominica Agriculture Producers & Exporters Limited (DAPEX) is sensitizing the general public of the Black Sigatoka disease which affects the banana plant.The disease which has not yet been found in Dominica has been identified in the several of our neighboring islands as close as Martinique.Mr. Ryan Anselm, the Quarantine Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture stated that the Black Sigatoka was first intercepted in Fiji in Jamaica in 1995, then in Trinidad, Grenada, St. Vincent from early 2000 and this year it was intercepted in Martinique.Click here to listen to audio:  Mr. Anselm emphasized the need for the public to be sensitized so as to prevent it from entering into Dominica as that would have devastating effects on our bananas.Dominica Vibes News Share LocalNews Ministry of Agriculture Cautions the Public on Black Sigatoka Disease by: – May 7, 2011center_img Sharing is caring! 37 Views   no discussions Sharelast_img
