  • Dutch pensions reform ‘requires flexible approach’: Lundbergh

first_imgThe lack of concrete results was, in his opinion, due to the sector’s “fixed mindset”, which focused on avoiding risks, such as mandatory pensions saving, financial education of participants, increased transparency and government regulation.“However, mandatory savings does not per se increase people’s motivation to increase saving,” he put into perspective. In his opinion, the sector must become more flexible and increase its focus on uncertainty, assess what does work and what doesn’t and adjust accordingly.“Look at how the world works and seek sufficient and robust solutions,” he said, “and keep on observing and adjusting to avoid the need for another system update in 15 years’ time.”Lundbergh is also non-executive trustee at AP4, one of Sweden’s first-pillar buffer funds. For more coverage of Pensioen Pro’s annual conference, visit the website. The Netherlands must not delay its pension system reform and should adopt a more flexible approach to achieve the overhaul, according to Cardano’s Stefan Lundbergh.“If conclusions are not drawn soon, history will hold us to account,” warned Lundbergh, director of Cardano Insights.Speaking at the annual conference of IPE’s Dutch sister publication Pensioen Pro in Amsterdam on Wednesday, he highlighted that discussions about a new pensions system in the Netherlands have been dragging on for 12 years.Recently, a Dutch daily newspaper published a leaked draft of a pensions agreement concluded between employers and trade unions, which suggested that a pensions contract under real terms was the favoured option of the social partners, rather than individual pensions accrual with collective risk sharing.last_img read more

DHAKA, Bangladesh – Hundreds of thousands of survivors were stuck Saturday behind roads blocked by fallen trees, iron roofs and thick sludge as rescue workers fought to reach towns along Bangladesh’s coast that were ravaged by a powerful cyclone that killed at least 1,723 people. Tropical Cyclone Sidr, the deadliest storm to hit the country in a decade, destroyed tens of thousands of homes in southwest Bangladesh on Thursday and ruined much-needed crops just before harvest season in this impoverished, low-lying South Asian country. More than a million coastal villagers were forced to evacuate to government shelters. The official death toll rose to 1,723 and authorities feared the figure could rise further as the country works to recover. The government scrambled Saturday to join international agencies and local officials in the rescue mission, deploying military helicopters, thousands of troops and naval ships. • Facebook blocks 115 accounts ahead of US midterm elections

first_imgLONDON – Facebook said it blocked 115 accounts for suspected “co-ordinated inauthentic behaviour” linked to foreign groups attempting to interfere in Tuesday’s U.S. midterm elections. The social media company shut down 30 Facebook accounts and 85 Instagram accounts and is investigating them in more detail, it said in a blog post late Monday. The company took action after being tipped off Sunday evening by U.S. law enforcement officials, who notified the company about recently discovered online activity, “which they believe may be linked to foreign entities,” Facebook’s head of cybersecurity policy, Nathaniel Gleicher, wrote in the post .U.S. tech companies are stepping up security and efforts to fight disinformation campaigns to prevent online troublemakers from trying to divide voters and discredit democracy. Facebook’s purge is part of countermeasures to prevent abuses like those used by Russian groups two years ago to sway public opinion ahead of the 2016 U.S. presidential election.Gleicher said the company will provide an update once it learns more, “including whether these accounts are linked to the Russia-based Internet Research Agency or other foreign entities.”Almost all of the Facebook Pages associated with the blocked accounts appeared to be in French or Russian. The Instagram accounts were mostly in English and were focused either on celebrities or political debate. No further details were given about the accounts or suspicious activity.Last month, Facebook removed 82 pages, accounts and groups tied to Iran aimed at stirring up social strife in the U.S. and the U.K. It carried out an even broader sweep in August, removing 652 pages, groups and accounts linked to Russia and Iran. Twitter says it has identified more than 4,600 accounts and 10 million tweets, mostly affiliated with the Internet Research Agency, that it says were linked to foreign meddling in U.S. elections, including the presidential vote of 2016.The Internet Research Agency is essentially a Russian troll farm that has been indicted by U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller for its actions during the 2016 election.last_img read more

  • NURTURING THEM RIGHT

first_imgAre dwarf rabbits relatively weaker? Rabbits have powerful hind legs designed for running and jumping. They need living space that will permit them ample freedom of movement even when they are confined. Dwarf rabbits tend to be more active and energetic than some larger breeds and require relatively more space. Is it alright to feed my rabbit roti, rice and other Indian food items? No! Rabbits have their own dietary needs and certain food items which they can consume. All cooked food must be avoided. Food with condiments, masala, oil etc. is also bad for your rabbit’s health. You should NOT give your rabbit rice or roti or any wheat based item like bread or pasta. Even raw fruits should only be given in small quantities. Rabbits can enjoy a variety of fresh leafy vegetables such as coriander, spinach, carrot tops or lettuce and also hay. But keep in mind that over-feeding your pet rabbit can have adverse effects. Also Read – Feel what you fear What do I do if my rabbit has fleas? Even though rabbit fleas are not that common in indoor pet rabbits, they do occur occasionally. If your rabbit is infected by fleas he/she might be showing symptoms like self-biting or chewing, excessive scratching and licking. • Unnerved by personal attacks, Tiwari firm on putting up tough fight against opponents

first_imgNew Delhi: Even after AAP’s North East Delhi candidate Dilip Pandey sought votes for himself and asked people not to vote for a “singer-dancer” like Manoj Tiwari, the Delhi BJP chief seems unnerved by such personal attacks on his art and hard work. With just two days to go for the polls in Delhi, the saffron party has concluded that it remains unbothered by the alliance storm that both the Congress and AAP had kicked up. Irrespective of who was responsible for the alliance’s fall, the BJP has resolved to put up a tough fight against both its major opposition parties. Also Read – Odd-Even: CM seeks transport dept’s views on exemption to women, two wheelers, CNG vehiclesResponding to allegations from the AAP camp, Tiwari had said that while Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his entourage had intended the “singer-dancer” remark as an insult, the sizeable Poorvanchali population in North East Delhi has not responded accordingly. With a large part of the voting population in Tiwari’s constituency being Poorvanchali, they seem to have taken it as a challenge to elect him and prove AAP wrong. It seems that Tiwari is proving too tough for his opponents in the Poorvanchali-heavy constituency. Also Read – More good air days in Delhi due to Centre’s steps: JavadekarAccording to age-old poet Tulsidas, people of a group tend to be charged-up when their own are insulted, and this will come true in all likelihood when the Capital goes to polls on May 12. The fact that former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit contesting against Tiwari will also not be able to sway voters in the area. This is purely because Tiwari has connected with Poorvanchali people on an emotional level that no other candidate could possibly achieve. Moreover, popular Haryanvi singer-dancer Sapna Chaudhary campaigning for Tiwari in NE Delhi has lent her support for the saffron party in large numbers. And the combined campaign efforts from both Tiwari and Chaudhary have turned AAP’s belittling attack into something Poorvanchalis can be proud of. Taking inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tiwari has made sure AAP’s insults reach all of the Poorvanchali population in Delhi, which has resulted in massive support from the community for the Delhi BJP chief. And this is exemplified by Tiwari’s comment, saying that people of Delhi will teach Congress and AAP a lesson when the results come out on May 23. Further, it seems very clear that while both Congress and AAP are busy blaming each other, the electorate in Delhi will focus on voting for a party that can get work done, especially ones relating to outstanding development.last_img read more
